Summary
Published in 2014, Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover follows Tate Collins, who meets airline pilot Miles Archer. It’s not love at first sight—they aren’t even friends. But they share a strong attraction, and soon agree on a simple arrangement: just sex, no strings attached. Miles has two rules: don’t ask about his past, and don’t expect a future. It seems easy enough, but they quickly discover that their emotions are harder to control than they thought.
My Thought
At first, I thought Ugly Love was a bit cheesy. The coincidences felt too convenient, Tate’s eagerness seemed awkward, and the plot seemed predictable. But Colleen Hoover has a way of taking a familiar story and making her characters break all the rules. I quickly grew to like Tate and Miles, especially the humor in their chemistry. Their relationship isn’t simple, but that’s what makes it interesting. What I love about Hoover is how she explores toxic relationships, making you either hope the characters will get out or find a resolution. In this case, you’re hoping for a resolution. It’s clear something happened in Miles’ past that made him so closed off, and I was eager to find out what it was. Soon, I couldn’t stop reading. The way the story is told—Tate’s straightforward present and Miles’ fragmented, poetic past—added a lot of emotion. It made me feel everything more deeply.
Then there’s the “spice.” I’m not usually a fan of reading sex scenes because they can be either too mild or too much. But Hoover gets it right. The scenes were steamy and passionate, so much so that I felt uncomfortable reading them in daylight. When Miles’ past was finally revealed, I had to take a break before I could continue. Even then, it broke me. I cried, and cried, and cried some more. I can’t give this book anything less than five stars. It had everything I needed, and any book that makes me cry like that is sure to be a favorite.
My Review
A Heart-Wrenching Love Story 💙💔
Some love stories are beautiful, and some are messy—Ugly Love is both. When Tate Collins meets Miles Archer, a guarded and emotionally broken pilot, their connection is undeniable, but love is off the table. No strings, no feelings, just an arrangement that seems simple—until it isn’t. As their pasts and emotions collide, secrets unravel, and hearts break. Told with breathtaking writing and a dual timeline that keeps you hooked, this book will shatter you and heal you all at once. If you love romances that make you feel every word, this one is unforgettable! ✈️💙
